CG Wins Order For Offshore Wind Connection

Electrical services provider CG reports that it will build a high-voltage substation for an offshore wind farm being developed by Amrumbank West GmbH, a subsidiary of E.ON Climate & Renewables Central Europe GmbH.

CG says it was part of the consortium of four companies that won turnkey contracts from Amrumbank for its German wind farm project located 40 km offshore in the North Sea.

CG, which says it has developed an AC/AC connection link, will design, engineer, supply and integrate all high-voltage power equipment to connect the 33 kV and 155 kV networks, including power transformers, high-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, as well as protection and automation equipment.

The company says it has developed an AC/AC connection link for offshore wind farms that is already being used in the North Sea. CG also maintains that its connection link has minimal weight and is designed for optimal maintenance.

According to CG, the offshore substation will transform the voltage to 155 kV and transmit power of approximately 300 MW to the electricity grid, operated by transmission system operator Tennet.

Installation of the offshore substation is scheduled for 2014 and will be completed in 2015, according to the company.
