Following the completion of an environmental assessment, Cartier Wind Energy Inc., a Longueuil, Quebec-headquartered partnership of TransCanada Corp. and Innergex II Income Fund, has received the ministerial decree for the implementation of the Carleton wind farm. The company says it can now begin construction of the wind farm once all permits and other approvals are obtained.
In the upcoming months, Cartier will supervise the installation of 73 wind turbines, which will be located behind Mont Saint-Joseph. The project will have a total installed capacity of 109.5 MW and will meet the electricity needs of the equivalent of more than 21,000 households, Cartier adds. Commercial operation is expected in December 2008.
The Carleton wind farm is the third of six projects Cartier will develop under Hydro-Quebec's 2004 wind energy call for tenders. According to Cartier, the project will result in the hiring of more than 200 people during construction and in community investments of C$2.9 million to the municipalities over a period of 21 years.
