Canadian Hydro Announces Melancthon II Decision

The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) has issued its final decision in the matter of Canadian Hydro Developer's appeal of certain planning matters relating to a portion of the 132 MW Melancthon II Wind Project. The OMB has allowed Canadian Hydro's appeals for the transformer station expansion as well as the official plan amendment and the zoning by-law amendments for the wind turbine generators and ancillary facilities in Amaranth township.

With this approval, Canadian Hydro is closer to beginning construction of the 22 wind turbines and the expanded transformer station that will be located in Amaranth. Canadian Hydro still requires a certificate of approval from the Ministry of the Environment and building permits from the county of Dufferin.

‘As a result of the feedback from interested parties during the OMB process, we will be installing quieter transformers and implementing protocols on noise complaints, icing and emergency preparedness,’ says Ann Hughes, executive vice president of Canadian Hydro. ‘We believe that these positive changes will make for a better project and thank those who have contributed their thoughts. We will now complete the other permits that will allow us to get under construction this spring, with completion of the plant scheduled for late fall.’
