Several businesses were honored at Quebec's First Wind Energy Industry Gala, presented by Hydro-Quebec. The event is an initiative of the Wind Energy TechnoCentre.

‘The purpose of the event was to reward and recognize the work of the organizations and individuals that have made particularly outstanding contributions to the wind power sector in Quebec,’ says Andre Lemieux, general manager. ‘With all the upcoming developments in the wind energy sector over the course of the next few months, we will certainly be organizing a second edition of Quebec's Wind Energy Industry Gala.’

The Gaspe Peninsula firm PESCA Environment achieved special distinction by taking two trophies, in the Advancement and Organisation of the Year categories. Specializing in environment-related consultancy services, PESCA Environment caught the jury's attention for the innovative nature of its services, its efforts over the years and its performance in the area of research and development.

These two organizations achieved distinction for the way they have developed their markets in Quebec and elsewhere, and for their positions within the industry and ability to raise awareness about Quebec know-how.

The Rising Star Trophy saluted the work done by the Gaspe firm Le Groupe Ohmega. Active in wind farm automation and telecommunications, Le Groupe Ohmega is reputed for its activities in an innovative sector of the wind energy industry.

The Personality of the Year Trophy went to Gilles Lefrancois, executive chairman of the board of directors of Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. The jury chose to reward Lefrancois for his leadership qualities, his contribution to positioning Quebec's wind energy industry and his sound professional relations within the wind power community.

The Jury's Choice Award went to Groupe Collegia to recognize its contribution to the development of a competent and specialized labor force. Groupe Collegia has established the only wind turbine maintenance training program offered in Quebec.
