BP Wind Energy has begun construction on the Sherbino II wind farm, located approximately 40 miles east of Fort Stockton in west Texas. The project will have a generating capacity of 150 MW.
Located on a 20,000-acre site in Pecos County, the project is 100% owned and will be operated by BP Wind Energy. It will utilize 60 Clipper Windpower C-96 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2.5 MW, and is expected to be in commercial operation by the end of the year. The balance-of-plant contract has been awarded to Mortenson Construction of Minneapolis and is expected to employ 200 to 250 people on-site during the peak of construction.
The power output from the project will be delivered into the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas transmission system and sold on the wholesale power market.
