Blunt Signs Components Of Energy Platform

Gov. Matt Blunt, R-Mo., has signed on to components of the Midwestern Governors Association (MGA) Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Platform, a regional strategy to achieve energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Members of the MGA could sign all or parts of the platform. Blunt signed on to the agreement's general preamble and the following regional initiatives committing Missouri's cooperation to:

– establish a Midwestern regional bioproduct procurement program to facilitate the systemized and uniform procurement of bio-based products,


– establish a regional electricity transmission adequacy initiative to assess current energy transmission infrastructure and recommend systematic and uniform regional approaches to the development of new transmission infrastructure necessary to handle projected growing demand,

– establish a renewable fuels corridor to increase regional promotion and use of biofuels and to increase availability of E85 and biodiesel within the member states,

-participate in advanced bioenergy permitting collaborative to develop and provide consistent regulatory guidelines for the permitting of new bioenergy projects, and

– develop regional low-carbon energy transmission infrastructure initiative to coordinate regional deployment of transmission systems for low-carbon energy production.
