A bipartisan coalition of governors is urging Congress to pass an immediate extension of the production tax credit (PTC) for wind energy.
Gov. Terry Branstad, R-Iowa, and Gov. John Kitzhaber, D-Ore., will lead a news conference next week on Capitol Hill to press Congress to renew the PTC during the lame-duck session.
They will also be joined by Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the author of the first-ever wind energy PTC legislation. Gov. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., may also attend.
The governors are members of the Governors' Wind Energy Coalition, a bipartisan group of 28 governors from across the country who support the diversification of the U.S. energy portfolio and the development of wind energy resources.
