Babcock Chooses ZephIR For Floating LIDAR System

0

The engineering support firm Babcock International Group has chosen the ZephIR 300 LIDAR system to collect wind data on its new floating LIDAR platform.

Babcock's platform allows the ZephIR 300 to collect data offshore without the need for post-processing or compensation, ZephIR says. The platform also provides the stability needed to collect accurate LIDAR data by utilizing a low-motion buoy.

"The use of a ZephIR LIDAR on our unique low-motion shallow draft spar buoy seeks to reduce the total cost and time of developing a wind farm, in comparison to consenting and constructing a traditional meteorological mast, whilst still maintaining the highest safety requirements of the industry," says Liam Forbes, renewable project manager at Babcock International.
