An Austrian energy consortium, the wind company GmbH, will acquire a one-third interest in Springfield Project Development LLC's 405 MW Sugar Creek wind project, which is now in advanced development in central Illinois.
The Sugar Creek project has been a joint venture of American Wind Energy Management Corp. (AWEM) and Oak Creek Energy Systems Inc., a subsidiary of Marubeni Corp. The project has obtained land rights, as well as advanced transmission interconnection and site development and permitting.
Marubeni Corp., a Japanese trading company, provided funding for the initial stages of development in concert with Euro Wind Energy Management GmbH and KG, a German developer.
The Sugar Creek project is expected to be constructed in multiple phases over the next three years, with commercial operation for the first phase set for late 2011.
