France-based AREVA has announced that it will locate a new offshore wind turbine factory in eastern Scotland.
From the facility, the company will manufacture its 5 MW turbines for offshore wind projects in the U.K. AREVA says the decision is part of its strategy to establish a manufacturing base that will cover the European market from three main industrial hubs: Bremerhaven, Germany; Le Havre, France; and East Scotland, U.K.
According to the company, the location in Scotland will leverage the local supply chain in the area to allow for lower logistics costs for U.K. projects.
