APS Requests Rate Increase

Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) plans to ask the Arizona Corporation Commission for approval to increase customer bills by 6.6%, effective July 1, 2012. The request is needed to help meet Arizona's energy goals, including producing 15% of the electricity used by APS customers from renewable generation by 2025, according to the utility. Today, the company obtains 3% of its generation from renewables.

The rate request also would enable the company to incorporate more smart technology into the state's electric grid and enhance control for customers over their energy use and bills, according to APS.
