San Diego-based American Technology Corp., (ATC) a provider of directed sound products and technologies, has received a new $400,000 long-range acoustic device (LRAD) order from bird-control and protection partner, DeTect Inc., a developer of radar systems for aircraft bird strike avoidance, avian risk assessment and migratory research.
‘We are experiencing growing interest from mining, agriculture, fisheries and other business interests that have wildlife mitigation and protection concerns,’ says Tom Brown, president and CEO of ATC. ‘Airports, air bases, harbors, wind farms and other critical facilities that have human and wildlife safety concerns are also recognizing the benefits of LRAD's unique, long-range, highly intelligible communications and warning capabilities.’
LRAD uses directionality and focused acoustic output to clearly transmit tones and predator calls at distances in excess of 2,000 meters. The device can be manually operated or integrated into remotely controlled command and control centers, according to ATC.
