As part of its quarterly earnings release, Vancouver, British Columbia-based renewable energy developer Alterra Power Corp. provided an update on the 204 MW Shannon Wind Project, located in Clay County, Texas.
According to Alterra, the wind farm is beginning to take shape. Road construction and improvements and turbine foundation excavation (on all 119 foundations) are complete, with turbine foundation construction and collector line placement well under way. Alterra expects commercial operations to begin in the fourth quarter.
The developer acquired the project from Horn Wind, LLC, a north Texas wind developer that developed two other wind projects in the region. Minneapolis-based Mortenson is providing construction services. This will be the second wind farm Mortenson will construct with Alterra following the completion of the Dokie Wind Project located in Chetwynd, British Columbia, in 2011.
Alterra says it is on track to complete financing in the second quarter. A letter of intent with two tax equity partners was completed in February and all project agreements are complete or in final stages of completion, the developer notes.
