France-based Alstom has announced a third shift and additional investment to boost operations at a wind turbine factory in Brazil.
Located in Camacari, a city in the state of Bahia, the production facility produces nacelles and hubs for Alstom's ECO 100 turbine platform. The company says the factory will now reach a total manufacturing and assembly capacity of up to 900 MW per year. When the facility was inaugurated in 2011, its total production capacity was 300 MW. It was later enhanced in 2012 to 600 MW.
With this latest ramp-up, Alstom says it will invest an additional EUR 3 million in the Camacari unit over the next four months. The production growth will lead to an upgrade of the existing production. The company also says the extension supports the local power market and the increasing demand for wind power solutions in recent years, especially in Brazil.
"This expansion proves Alstom's commitment to build a wind cluster in Bahia State and to help the Brazilian market to have a sustainable and green energy matrix," says Pierre-Francois Chenevier, vice president of wind business in Alstom Latin America.
