ACCIONA Windpower will supply 39 AW3000 wind turbines to RIO Energy for the planned Itarema wind power complex, located in the Brazilian state of Ceara.
The turbine maker says the 117 MW order calls for the supply and installation of turbines on concrete towers with a hub height of 120 and 100 meters. Delivery will begin in July, ACCIONA notes.
ACCIONA Windpower already has a nacelle assembly facility and a hub production plant in Brazil, in the state of Bahia, and a concrete tower production plant, located in Rio Grande do Norte. ACCIONA also purchases other main wind turbine components in other parts of the country.
The contract also pushes total unit sales for the AW3000 machine past 2 GW. The turbine maker says that sales of its 3 MW machine reached 861 MW alone in 2014 – or 41% of total company sales.
