Acciona Flips The Switch On Company’s First Chilean Wind Farm

Acciona has grid-connected the Punta Palmeras wind farm, the company's first wind project to come online in Chile.

The 45 MW facility features 15 AW 116/3000 turbines mounted on 92-meter-high steel towers. The 3 MW model has a rotor diameter of 116 meters.

In June 2013, utility company Colbun awarded Acciona a long-term supply contract, and construction work began in November 2013. Electricity production from the wind farm is injected into the Chilean Central Interconnected Grid.

"The start-up of Punta Palmeras symbolizes our vocation to contribute to the development of renewables in Chile and highlights the professional skills of Acciona in the materialization – on time and with guarantees – of large-scale and innovative projects in clean technologies," says Acciona Energia CEO Rafael Mateo.
