270 MW Wind Farm Planned For Ontario

The Ontario Clean Technology Alliance (OCTA) has announced plans for a $600 million, 270 MW wind farm, to be built by Pattern Energy Group LP and Samsung Renewable Energy Inc.

According to the OCTA, the project will create approximately 300 construction jobs, 20 permanent jobs and an estimated $800,000 of annual tax revenue over the life of the project.

‘South Kent Wind is one of four separate wind energy power purchase agreements between Pattern, Samsung and the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) that will ultimately provide 870 MW of clean energy to OPA – enough to power more than 300,000 homes every year,’ notes Stuart McFadden, manager of business development for the municipality of Chatham-Kent.

The approval of the South Kent Wind project is subject to final approval from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and is expected to be fully operational by early 2014.
