Texas PUC Makes CREZ Designations

The Texas Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has directed the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to develop transmission plans to serve between 10,000 MW and 23,000 MW of new renewable wind generation projects by 2012 as part of Texas' competitive renewable energy zone process. This plan increases current production sevenfold, according to Environmental Defense, a national nonprofit organization.

‘We applaud the PUC's aggressive action today,’ says Scott Anderson, energy policy specialist for Environmental Defense. ‘The legislative leadership was also a key, since they put the policies in place that made this possible. And we commend the utility industry for rising to the challenge in meeting Texans' demands for cleaner, safe sources of energy.’
