Xcel Energy Foundation has donated another $8,000 for students majoring in wind energy technology at Mesalands Community College. The donation – Xcel's third – brings the utility's total to $40,000.

Xcel Energy Foundation's mission is to use the collective knowledge, resources and skills of their staff and colleagues to make a positive impact.

‘It's really important for us to stay involved and to give back to our communities,’ explains David Essex, Xcel's community service manager. ‘Wind energy is something that continues to grow, and therefore, we will need more people to be able to work on these turbines. We think Mesalands is doing a great job with their wind program, and we are just happy to help.’

Essex notes that the Xcel Energy Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations in eight different states. These grants are used to support organizations that improve science, technology, engineering, economics and math education; improve and enhance the natural environment; help individuals achieve economic self-sufficiency; and that provide access to arts and culture.

To date, 23 wind energy technology students at Mesalands have benefited from Xcel Energy Foundation scholarships, notes the community college.
