Vineyard Wind: 136 MW Now Grid-Connected

0

Electric utility Avangrid Inc. and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners say 10 turbines at the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore project are now delivering power to the Massachusetts grid.

The 10 active turbines – totaling approximately 136 MW of output – sit among another 11 turbines that are awaiting commissioning, along with a total of 47 turbine foundations.

Once complete, the project will be the largest renewable energy facility in New England, at 806 MW.

In February, Vineyard Wind delivered approximately 68 MW from five turbines to the grid. Building on the 136 MW currently in operation, additional power will be delivered to the grid sequentially, with each turbine starting production once it completes the commissioning process.

The power from the project interconnects to the New England grid in Barnstable, Mass., transmitted by underground cables that connect to a substation further inland on Cape Cod.

At its full buildout, the project will consist of 62 wind turbines.
