VINCI, a consortium made up of Dragados Offshore and Siemens Energy, has been awarded a contract by 50Hertz to design, build and install two electrical conversion stations.
The 2 GW project includes an offshore platform to convert the AC produced by wind farm LanWin 3 in the North Sea into HVDC to reduce electrical losses during transmission to land. It is set to be built in the Dragwhich willados offshore yard in Andalusia, Spain.
An onshore platform located in Germany’s northeast will convert the DC into AC for delivery to the electricity grid.
