Vestas says it has reached 3 GW of installed wind energy capacity in Italy, which represents 40% of the country's total installed base, according to the company.

Vestas has been active in the Italian wind energy market since 1998. The company has sold, installed and serviced nine generations of turbines, including its V27-225 kW and V100-1.8 MW models for the Santa Luce wind farm, the V100-2.6 MW platform for the Orta Nova wind farm, and the V112-3.0 MW turbine, which was recently ordered for the Gorgoglione Guardia Perticara project.

"[T]he sector in Italy has experienced a constant growth of around 1,000 MW per year, with an overall installed capacity of more than 7,400 MW," notes Rainer Karan, general manager of Vestas Italia. "There is much more to do for Italy to reach the 2020 objectives, and it is up to the new auction system to allow the market to follow this growth rate, considered the newly introduced feed-in-tariff scheme with the respective installation capacity limitations."
