Using FORCE, GL Garrad Hassan To Study New Offshore Wind Technology

0

In an effort to reduce the cost of energy from offshore wind farms, GL Garrad Hassan (GLGH) will study new technologies that can be applied to offshore wind turbines.

Dubbed Project FORCE (for reducing the cost of energy), GLGH says the campaign will build on the company's experience in turbine design, control system engineering and structural modeling in the 7 MW to 10 MW range.

A key focus of the program is on the use of new and innovative technology in offshore applications, such as advanced control systems including individual pitch control, multivariable and LIDAR-assisted solutions, as well as examining how high-speed, structurally flexible, downwind rotor blades operate in the marine environment.

The results of the project are expected in late 2013, GLGH says.
