TenneT Transmitted 23 TWh Wind in North Sea Last Year

TenneT announced it transmitted around 19.24 TWh energy from the German North Sea and 4.17 TWh from the Dutch North Sea to land last year.

In the Netherlands, 11.54 TWh of wind energy was transferred from sea to land in 2023 overall, compared to 7.91 TWh the previous year, partially due to the commissioning of the Hollandse Kust grid connection system by TenneT and the corresponding expansion of offshore wind farms in 2023.

TenneT’s transmission capacity in the Dutch North Sea increased to 4,666 MW last year. While the company’s transmission capacity in the German North Sea increased to 8,032 MW from 7,132 MW in 2023, it decreased approximately 9% overall during the same period. However, onshore wind has increased during this time.

“We can see that the expansion of our offshore grid connection systems in the Netherlands and Germany is progressing well,” says TenneT COO Tim Meyerjürgens. “And onshore grid expansion in Germany is also finally making progress thanks to numerous acceleration measures over the past two years.”
