Tele-Fonika to Supply Cables for Baltyk Wind Farms

Equinor and Polenergia, which are jointly developing three wind farms in the Baltic Sea, have signed a component supply agreement with Tele-Fonika Kable.

The Polish company, a supplier of HC and EHV cable systems for the renewable energy sector, is contracted to manufacture and supply land cables for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects.

“We want our investments to contribute to job creation and strengthen domestic companies in various industries,” says Jerzy Zań, CEO of Polenergia.

“The potential of Polish contractors in the renewable energy market is very high. By signing an agreement with Tele-Fonika Kable, we want to clearly emphasize this. The Polish manufacturer, which is one of the world leaders in the cable industry, will make very important components for us to operate the Bałtyk 2 and 3 projects. At the same time, it is another Polish company, with whom we are tying up in connection with the implementation of our offshore wind farms.”

For the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects, Tele-Fonika Kable will be responsible for design work, production and delivery of:

• 85 kilometers of onshore HV 220 kV export cables, which will connect the offshore substation with the onshore substation.

• 38 kilometers of 400 kV onshore EHV cables, which will connect the projects’ onshore substation with the Słupsk Wierzbięcino substation, owned by the Polish Power Grid.

The cables will be manufactured at the plant in Bydgoszcz and transported 250 kilometers away to their installation site on the Polish coast.

Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 have a combined capacity of 1440 MW. First energy from the projects is expected to flow into the grid as early as 2027. Commercial use is planned from 2028.

In the next phase of development, Equinor and Polenergia are developing Bałtyk 1, which will be 81 kilometers from the shore and have a 1,560 MW capacity.
