Salamander Offshore Wind Farm Submits Offshore Consent Application

Salamander has submitted an offshore consent application for its proposed 100 MW floating offshore wind farm, located 35 km off the coast of Peterhead, Scotland.

The application was an Innovation bid in Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round, which included exclusivity agreements awarded to small-scale projects of less than 100 MW. Salamander won its agreement under this category.

Subject to approval by the country’s ministers, the application will grant permission for offshore elements of the project.

Salamander plans to support the country’s floating wind supply chain planned scale-up ahead of the pipeline of projects leased under the ScotWind and INTOG seabed leasing rounds.

“We have submitted a high-quality, thorough consent application and we’re committed to continue working with the necessary stakeholders throughout the approval process,” says Hugh Yendole, Salamander project director.

“Ambitious targets from both the Scottish and U.K. governments are not yet complemented by the infrastructure and supply chain required to deliver the floating wind pipeline in the U.K. The timely delivery of Salamander is critical for industry in ensuring we provide opportunities to enable the U.K. supply chain. We want to encourage investment in local ports and indigenous technologies that will pave the way for a decarbonised future.”

Salamander is a joint venture partnership among Ørsted, Simply Blue Group and Subsea7.
