Quebec Research Center Installs Met Mast

In an effort to better understand wind production in cold climates and complex terrain, Quebec's TechnoCentre eolien has installed a 126-meter met mast on the grounds of the research center.

According to the TechnoCentre, the met mast features 40 sensors located at varying heights to analyze ‘exceptional’ meteorological episodes, including icing. The met mast, in conjunction with other TechnoCentre equipment, will allow the study of wind shear and turbine wake in real time.

‘The data collected by these various research infrastructures will help us better understand the factors affecting turbine performance in cold climate and complex terrain settings in order to maximize wind farm energy production,’ notes Frederic Cote, general manager of the TechnoCentre, adding that RES Canada and NRG Systems assisted in the project.
