President Obama Urges Congress To Extend Wind Energy Production Tax Credit

President Obama is calling on Congress to act on what he calls a ‘To Do List’ of bipartisan initiatives designed to create jobs and boost the middle class. Among those initiatives – which Obama presented at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering's NanoTech Complex in Albany, N.Y. – is a renewal of the production tax credit (PTC) for wind energy.

As part of a broader goal of ‘creating jobs by investing in affordable clean energy,’ Obama urged Congress to extend the PTC as well as the Section 48C clean energy manufacturing tax credit.

‘Congress needs to help put America in control of its energy future by passing legislation that will extend the production tax credit to support American jobs and manufacturing alongside an expansion of the 30 percent tax credit to investments in clean energy manufacturing,’ the White House said in a statement.

The Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY), a statewide coalition dedicated to promoting clean energy and energy efficiency technologies, welcomed the president's efforts.

‘We applaud President Obama's focus on creating jobs by investing in affordable clean energy and hope Congress heeds his call to pass legislation that will extend the production tax credit and expand the 30 percent tax credit to investments in clean energy manufacturing,’ said Carol E. Murphy, executive director of ACE NY. ‘These incentives are just the type of support that is needed to increase American manufacturing jobs and domestic clean energy investment, and will let regions like Tech Valley grow and thrive across the country.’
