A group of educational and research institutions is seeking a partner on the deployment of an offshore meteorological wind assessment research buoy in Lake Michigan.

The entities participating in the project include Grand Valley State University's Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center, the University of Michigan, Phoenix Energy Institute and other research entities.

According to the institution, the group seeks a manfacturer or supplier partner for a project that includes the construction and deployment of the buoy, the capture and documentation of wind and related data, and the operation and maintenance of the buoy and related research devices.

The research buoy will be deployed to three separate Lake Michigan locations over a three-year research period.

Proposals are due Nov. 22, and a final selection is slated for Nov. 30. Buoy deployment is scheduled for late May 2011.
