New Jersey State Senate Democrats, who control the state's Environment and Energy Committee, advanced a bill that they say would increase the use of renewable energy in the state, the Asbury Park Press reports.
The bill, passed by Democrats in a 3-2 vote, would establish a 30% renewable portfolio standard (RPS). Christie's plan proposes an RPS of 22.5%.
This move came into conflict with a proposed energy bill introduced Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., who criticized the Democrats' efforts. Bob Martin, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, implied that a veto might be possible if the bill is passed.
Martin told the Asbury Park Press that Christie already ‘has aggressively promoted the development of renewable energy sources and provided the leadership necessary to move New Jersey forward into a greener, more economically prosperous energy future.’
