Nebraska State Senators Reach Compromise On Bill

0

The Omaha World-Herald is reporting that senators in the Nebraska Legislature have reached a compromise on a bill that would make it easier to construct wind farms in the state.

Legislative Bill 561, introduced by state Sen. Steve Lathrop, D-Neb., would allow public power districts to agree to limit their power of eminent domain over private energy generation facilities. Under L.B. 561, the public power districts could reach such agreements with businesses that build renewable energy generation facilities that produce electricity with wind.

According to the bill, ‘â¦ each such district shall have and exercise the power of eminent domain to acquire from any person, firm, association or private corporation any and all property owned, used, operated or useful for operation in the generation, transmission or distribution of electrical energy, including an existing electric utility system or any part thereof.

An amendment to the bill makes it easier for private investors to access loans required to build wind farms.
