British Columbia-based NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc. has signed an indicative offer with an offshore wind development company to develop a project in the Hecate Strait.
The strait is located a few kilometers east of Haida Gwaii, a Haida Nation archipelago located off the northern Pacific coast of Canada.
The parties are working to negotiate and sign a definitive agreement in the next few weeks. The agreement will provide technical expertise, dedicated financial resources and a framework for a long-term relationship, says NaiKun.
“After months of work and lengthy engagements with numerous offshore wind companies, we are very pleased to be making this step to see the project move forward into a significant development phase,” says Michael O’Connor, president and CEO of NaiKun. “We look forward to starting a new and positive partnership with the Haida Nation.”
The final agreement, if completed, will be subject to shareholder, regulatory and TSX Venture Exchange approval.
