Molded Fiber Glass Shuttering S.D. Factory After GE Stops Wind Orders

Molded Fiber Glass (MFG), which provides a network of molding factories across North America, is closing its Aberdeen, S.D., plant after receiving a notice that GE would no longer be ordering wind blades from the facility.

According to a local report from Aberdeen News, the plant, whose only customer was GE, opened in 2008. The Feb. 15, 2018, closure of the facility will affect 409 employees, the report says.

Citing Dave Giovannini, senior vice president at Molded Fiber Glass, Aberdeen News says GE “had no requirements for additional blades from [the manufacturer’s] operation beyond January of 2018.”

The company says its wind division, MFG Wind, has produced more than 9,000 blades for original equipment manufacturers for over 25 years.
