Michigan’s Prop 3 Renewable Energy Ballot Measure Defeated

0

Michigan voters have rejected a ballot measure that would have increased Michigan's renewable portfolio standard from 10% by 2015 to 25% by 2025.

The state's major utilities, including DTE Energy and Consumers Energy, have opposed the initiative because they claim it would have led to increased costs for consumers. They were also opposed to the idea of modifying the state's constitution to include such a measure.

The initiative had gained national attention, as well as some high-profile support, including from former President Bill Clinton.
