EDF Renewables North America has selected MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as the preferred supplier of Nautilus Offshore Wind, proposed off the coast of Atlantic City, N.J.
EDF plans to feature three V164-8.3 MW turbines from MHI Vestas, taking the company’s V164 platform to the U.S. offshore wind market for the first time.
Nautilus Offshore Wind will be located in state waters. The project is currently under review by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for approval of an offshore renewable energy credit agreement. EDF expects the project to be operational as soon as 2020.
“We’re proud to be named as preferred supplier for the Nautilus Offshore Wind project and look forward to bringing our flagship V164 turbine to the U.S. market with EDF Renewables,” says Philippe Kavafyan, CEO of MHI Vestas. “Nautilus, already permitted, provides us the timely opportunity to bring our technology and experience to the U.S. offshore market. The knowledge gained on this project will help New Jersey achieve its clean energy goals and lay the groundwork for future offshore wind deployment along the eastern seaboard.”
