A request for proposals (RFP) has been issued by Massachusetts' investor-owned electric utilities, in consultation with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources and in compliance with Section 83 of the Massachusetts Green Communities Act of 2008.
Eligible projects must qualify as Massachusetts renewable portfolio standard Class I generation units. Proposals are sought for the supply of approximately 1.5% of each company's annual load, approximately 0.75 million MWh combined, under long-term power purchase agreements with a duration of 10 to 15 years.
The participating utilities are Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light Co., d/b/a Unitil; Massachusetts Electric Co. and Nantucket Electric Co., d/b/a National Grid; NSTAR Electric Co.; and Western Massachusetts Electric Co.
