Dr. Carolyn Heeps has joined Lloyd’s Register to lead the company’s renewable energy business in North America.

Lloyd’s Register, based out of London, is a provider of services for engineering and technology. Heeps began her career in offshore renewables at The Crown Estate and led the first two rounds of leasing in the U.K. offshore wind sector. Heeps has since worked with Fred Olsen Renewables and the RES Group.

Recently, Heeps spent two years working with Ørsted at its business in Boston. Heeps supported Ørsted’s successful entry into the region through the role of consultation manager in the environment and permitting team for development projects off Massachusetts and New Jersey. Between 2016-2018, Heeps was also the chair of the American Wind Energy Association’s offshore committee.

In 2001, she also founded a charitable trust to fund projects to understand the environmental impacts of offshore wind.

“As head of renewables, North America, for LR, I am delighted to have joined such a prestigious organization and to be given the opportunity to expand our service provision in this exciting new market,” says Heeps. “Building a U.S. team that can draw upon the existing expertise of such an experienced and diverse organization already very active in the renewables sector, as well as developing new specialist skills and talent, is an exciting proposition.”
