Jumbo Offshore Awarded Expanded Contract for Yunlin Offshore Farm

Jumbo Offshore has been awarded a contract by Yunnneg Wind Power for monopiles removal at the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm, representing an expansion of the company’s existing project responsibilities which has so far involved transport and installation of transition pieces.

Under the amendment, some monopiles, installed during an earlier project phase, are to be removed approximately three meters below mean seabed level. To undertake this, Jumbo Offshore will mobilize the DP2 Heavy Lift Crane Vessel Fairplayer, which will be outfitted with an underwater abrasive cutting and lifting tool as well as an ROV.

With these, the Fairplayer will remove the monopiles in several sections, then set to be lifted into the vessel’s 1,400 sq. meter cargo hold for transportation to a local Taiwanese port, where the vessel will offload the monopile sections to the quayside.

“We have been active on the Yunlin OWF project since 2021, carrying out transport and installation of transition pieces and will continue to perform this role in 2024,” says Jumbo Offshore’s Milad Sheikhi. “Being awarded this additional scope shows trust in our performance, project management, engineering and installation capabilities, for which we are very grateful to our client.”

Yunneng Wind Power is a joint project company involving Skybporn Renewables, TotalEnergies, Electricity Generating Public Company and Sojitz Corporation. Located in the Taiwan Strait, the 640 MW project will comprise 80 wind turbine generators installed at water depths of up to 35 meters.
