Global Wind Summit Brings Together Conference And Expo With International Focus

The Global Wind Summit – coming to Hamburg, Germany, this September – will combine the WindEnergy Hamburg expo with the WindEurope 2018 conference to create an internationally focused event for the onshore and offshore wind industry.

The expo and conference will be held side by side on Sept. 25-28 at the Hamburg Messe site. This year, WindEnergy Hamburg is putting a focus on three major subjects: “Dynamic Markets,” “Cost-Efficiency” and “Smart Energy.” It will host more than 50 conference sessions by 250 wind stakeholders.

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), a supporting association for the Global Wind Summit, will join stakeholders and other visitors from North America at the expo. Specifically, AWEA is this year’s patron of the event’s U.S. pavilion, located in Hall B-1.

“American wind power has world-class resource potential, a robust supply chain and a bright future that we’re excited to showcase at WindEnergy Hamburg’s USA Pavilion,” says Brent Nussbaum, AWEA’s vice president of member relations. “Land-based wind power is a competitive and mainstream energy source, supplying over six percent of U.S. electricity last year and supporting over 100,000 U.S. workers across all 50 states. Looking ahead, offshore wind is poised to take off, expanding the opportunity for workers and supply-chain businesses to manufacture, deploy and operate these projects.”

Claus Ulrich Selbach, Hamburg Messe’s business unit director of maritime and technology fairs, speaks on the international focus of the event:

“We can see that more and more markets are appearing on the global map of the wind industry. At the same time, we have to remember that wind power is always a regional matter, too, and needs to involve the players at local level because of the regulations and conditions under which it operates – in terms of requests for proposal, authorization procedures and grid feed-in conditions. The world’s leading expo for wind energy gives experts the ideal forum to exchange ideas on how to realize projects in the various markets. In 2018, some 1,400 companies and associations from about 40 countries are exhibiting here – for example, from the major wind energy markets China and the U.S. and also from emerging markets such as India, Russia and Taiwan. There will be 22 national and regional pavilions. The exhibitors can expect some 35,000 trade visitors from 100 countries.”
