Glamox has contracted with Denmark’s Bladt Industries to provide lighting for 176 wind turbine transition pieces for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project, owned and developed by Dominion Energy.
The company will provide 2,850 of its linear LED luminaires that will be installed on the transition pieces’ external platform, gantry and ladders, as well as inside the structure, by subcontractor Scanel International.
“The lighting needs to be energy efficient and, crucially, must be able to cope with harsh, wet and corrosive conditions,” says Bladt Industries’ Mikkel Søndergaard. “We demanded a secure, robust, and dependable product from a company with a track record in marine lighting as these luminaires must be able to survive the worst the Atlantic Ocean can throw at them.”
Once operational, CVOW will generate 2.6 GW of energy, says Glamox. The wind farm, located 27 mi. off the coast of Virginia Beach, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
