Empire Energy, Herrick Collaborate on Domestic Offshore Wind Supply Chain

Empire Energy Partners’ Offshore Division has entered into a joint venture with Herrick, with the aim of strengthening domestic manufacturing for the offshore wind supply chain.

The companies are hoping to address what both call a need for robust domestic manufacturing and construction capabilities as the U.S. offshore wind sector expands. The venture plans to do so by exploring the potential to manufacture components such as monopiles, transition pieces, towers and secondary steel for both fixed and floating offshore wind projects.

This collaboration aims to leverage Herrick’s steel production expertise and Empire Energy’s EPC capabilities to enhance the domestic supply chain’s capacity. The joint venture has existing collaborations with Sarens and Largo Concrete.

Empire Energy and Herrick plan to explore opportunities to develop and build facilities dedicated to the manufacturing of wind turbine generator components, including nacelles, blades, towers, monopiles, transition pieces and secondary steel.

“This joint venture marks a critical milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen the U.S. offshore wind supply chain,” says Mike Milledge, senior director of Offshore Wind at Empire Energy Partners.

“By combining our expertise with Herrick Corporation’s industry-leading steel manufacturing capabilities, we are well-positioned to support the nation’s renewable energy goals with a focus on quality, scalability and sustainability.”
