E.ON has begun construction on its Peyton Creek Wind Farm, a 151 MW project located in Matagorda County, Texas.
E.ON expects to commission the south Texas project before the end of the year. With the addition of Peyton Creek, E.ON will have more than 4 GW of wind, solar and energy storage projects online in the U.S.
The project, located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) south market, includes 48 Nordex 3.15 MW turbines. It will generate enough electricity to power more than 45,000 homes.
“This project brings diversification to our local energy sector and creates new investment that will enhance our tax base,” says Mike Ferdinand, executive director of the Matagorda County Economic Development Corp. “We wish them well as they begin construction and operation in our great county.”
E.ON recently completed another south Texas wind farm, the 201 MW Stella project in Kenedy County.
That’s really great! Texas can really benefit from more coastal wind power – production is nicely decoupled from West Texas wind, and for much of the year the peak production of coastal wind is during peak demand, but later than PV production.
