DeTect has joined a collaboration whose efforts include an 18-month initiative to gather weather, ocean and wildlife data near active offshore wind farms and lease areas in the Northeast U.S.
The collaboration also includes the U.S. Department of Energy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
It is part of the Wind Forecast Improvement Project, which is set to obtain the data onboard an autonomous moored barge, in order to improve the design and operation of offshore turbines and wind farms.
DeTect’s involvement includes the MERLIN True3D radar system, designed for offshore vessel and buoy deployments to collect avian and bat movements while compensating for the dynamics of being on a moving platform.
