CRS Launches ‘Buy Clean Energy’ Campaign

Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) has launched a campaign called Buy Clean Energy 2010 that encourages individuals and organizations to buy renewable energy in support of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.Â

The site, buycleanenergy.org, gives users tools to research local utility green-power programs, or buy renewable energy certificates through a ‘Buy Now’ button, and return to the site to share personal testimonials about why they purchased clean energy. Participants can also share their positive actions with friends and contacts on social media sites.

‘Buying clean energy is one of the most important tools consumers and businesses have to reduce the impact of their electricity use,’ says Arthur O'Donnell, executive director of CRS.

This format is intended to introduce households and businesses to the benefits of clean energy through an interactive site where users can record their personal reasons for supporting renewable energy and add their purchases to the site's year-long goal of 1 billion unique kWh purchased as a result of the campaign.

The Natural Resources Defense Council has joined the campaign as a supporting organization, joining 15 other organizations and businesses, including Xcel Energy, Sterling Planet, EcoElectrons, the American Council on Renewable Energy and Earth Day Network, in early support of this program.

Buy Clean Energy 2010 will run throughout the year.Â
