Jackson, Mich.-based Consumers Energy has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for renewable energy. The utility is seeking sources to supply 250 MW of capacity and 600,000 MWh of renewable energy annually for up to 20 years.
The invitation for bids for new renewable energy projects is part of the utility's plan to increase its green power supply to 10% by 2015 to meet the requirements of Michigan's new energy law.
All interested respondents are requested to submit a notice of intent no later than 5 p.m. on May 21.
About 4% of the power that Consumers Energy currently supplies to customers comes from Michigan-based renewable sources, including wind, biomass, hydro, landfill gas and anaerobic digestion.
