ENGIE North America Inc. has announced the start of construction of the Live Oak Wind Project in west Texas.

Located near San Angelo in Schleicher County, Live Oak is part of the Infinity Renewables portfolio recently acquired by ENGIE North America. With a total capacity of approximately 200 MW, Live Oak is scheduled to be online by the end of this year.

The project will use 76 Siemens-Gamesa 2.625 MW turbines with 120-meter rotors, and the balance of the facility will be constructed by Blattner Energy Inc. Infinity Renewables began development of the Live Oak project in 2009 and worked with landowners and the local community over several years to advance the project to construction.

The total capital investment of the project is approximately $200 million. Over the life of the project, it will generate significant benefits to the local area, including annual payments to landowners, purchases of local goods and services, donations to the Schleicher County Independent School District, and payments to the various taxing entities, says ENGIE.
