The 10 MW Georgia Mountain Community Wind (GMCW) farm, located in Milton and Georgia, Vt., operated at a 63.7% capacity factor and produced more than 1 GWh during the first week of April.

Local renewable energy manufacturer and developer David Blittersdorf and Georgia Mountain Maples operator Jim Harrison and the Harrison Family own the 10-turbine wind project, which completed construction Dec. 31, 2012. According to the parties, GMCW will produce an estimated 27 GWh annually and provides approximately 8% of the Burlington Electric Department's (BED) energy demand through a long-term contract.

When the project was commissioned late 2012, BED General Manager Barbara Grimes commented, "This project fits perfectly into BED's sustainability goals. We are moving toward a 100 percent renewable power portfolio, and we like power close to home so that these dollars recirculate in the economy. Projects such as Georgia Mountain Community Wind are pro-environment and pro-economy."
