Vestas has received a 202 MW order from Capital Power for its Whitla Wind project in southeast Alberta.
The V136-3.45 MW turbines will be delivered in 3.6 MW power-optimized mode. The order includes supply and commissioning of the turbines, as well as a 10-year Active Output Management 5000 service agreement, designed to maximize uptime and energy production and ensure optimized performance for the lifetime of the project.
The Whitla Wind Project was selected as one of four projects by the Alberta Electric System Operator in Alberta’s first renewable energy auction, which set a record-low price for wind power in Canada.
“We’re pleased that Vestas’ 4 MW platform was able to help Capital Power achieve the record-breaking low wind costs in this auction, which are a testament to the power of wind to deliver clean, low-cost energy for the benefit of consumers and communities,” says Chris Brown, president of Vestas’ sales and service division in the U.S. and Canada.
“We have worked with Vestas for more than a decade and look forward to embarking on another successful wind project together,” adds Darcy Trufyn, Capital Power’s senior vice president of operations, engineering and construction. “We are confident that Whitla Wind will deliver strong performance and support bringing clean energy to Albertans.”
Turbine delivery and commissioning are scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2019, respectively.
