BOEM Offers More Time To Comment On N.Y. Offshore Wind Development

0

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is extending the comment period from May 29 to July 30 for information and nominations for offshore wind energy development within the New York Bight region.

In addition, BOEM will be working with affected states in the New York Bight to plan additional stakeholder engagement opportunities with groups such as commercial and recreational fisheries and the maritime navigation community.

Last month, BOEM issued a call for information and nominations for commercial leasing for wind power on the Outer Continental Shelf in the New York Bight. This region represents an area of shallow waters between Long Island (to the north and east) and the New Jersey coast (to the south and west).

In addition to nominations, BOEM seeks public input on the potential for wind energy development in the call area. This includes site conditions, resources, and multiple uses in close proximity to or within the call areas that would be relevant to BOEM’s review of any nominations submitted, as well as BOEM’s subsequent decision whether to offer all or part of the call areas for commercial wind leasing.
