Bladt Industries, an international steel contractor based out of Denmark, has been selected by Vineyard Wind as the supplier for fabrication and delivery of an offshore substation for the developer’s Massachusetts offshore wind project.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract covers a 3,000-ton offshore substation and a 1,500-ton jacket foundation. Bladt will execute the project in close cooperation with Semco Maritime for the electrical system and ISC Engineering for design.

“The offshore substation is the heart of the offshore wind farm, allowing the wind farm to connect to the grid,” comments Nils Overgaard, chief sales officer at Bladt. “Bladt Industries will utilize the local supply chain in terms of supplies, consultancy and implementation. Bladt is engaging local companies as partners or sub suppliers and sees this as a vital part of our strategy and development for our presence in the U.S. offshore wind market.”

Klaus Steen Mortensen, CEO of Bladt, says the company sees the new contract as a “stepping stone for Bladt Industries into the U.S. offshore wind market, which is a market with tremendous potential.”
